If you don’t appreciate Mayweather’s skills then you don’t know boxing.

Mayweather and beltsIf you don’t appreciate Mayweather’s skills then you don’t know boxing.

Floyd Mayweather Jr put in another superb, almost flawless display against Robert “the ghost” Guerrero at the MGM Grand arena in Las Vegas Nevada. He did it with an eclectic array of accurate right hand leads, fast hooks, quick, nifty footwork and his typical awkward impregnable defense. In the end he strolled to a unanimous 117-111 win on all three judges scorecards.

Any fears or thoughts of (especially after the Cotto fight) him losing a step. The three months in jail affecting his reflexes, or not fighting for a year being a problem quickly went away. Floyd swiftly and comfortably got into his stride as early as the second round.

Floyd's right and lead.Floyd was never troubled in the fight and made it look easy. But no sooner did he win, we had the typical hater parade discrediting his performance. Talking about he ran all fight, it was boring and the obvious tired talk of him “ducking” Pacquiao.

First of all let me just say, though many non boxing connoisseurs talked down Gurrerro as they have never heard of him before. He is a six-time, four-weight champion. There are not many boxers out there with this kind of record, let alone in Floyd’s weight classes.

Secondly, I heard a few were booing and many called it boring, I am really confused by this. Why is this Floyd’s faulty? What is the guy meant to do stand there and allow himself to be hit for the public’s entertainment? Boxing is an art form, the “sweet science of boxing” is not a myth, it’s a fact.

Floyd avoids Guerrero. The way to demonstrate being the best boxer, is to hit an opponent and avoid being hit. That is the science of boxing.

At the end of the day it is called boxing, not slugging.

Yes maybe he should have stopped Guerrero. In the eighth round he looked like he was trying to do this, but hurt his right hand.

Some say it was an excuse for not getting the stoppage but when he removed his glove, you could clearly see his right hand was massively swollen. If you know anything about boxing you would know Floyd has suffered with brittle hands throughout his career.

Guerrero's faceSome of these blood thirsty non boxing fans need to stop watching Rocky movies.

We all would love to, and probably wish to see toe to toe slug-fest’s when we watch a fight.

But if you are a fan of boxing, how can you not appreciate the skills of Mayweather?

The fact of the matter is, if a fighter is good enough, he will catch Floyd as Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley proved.

Fans want to be entertained but they don’t really care about the fighters. I know they get paid handsomely but we have seen so many ex boxers health decline due to taking too many head shots. So many fighters disfigured or now slurring their speech because of to much punishment.

They say Floyd is afraid of getting hit well, tell me a fighter who enjoys getting pounded in the face? They also say this is the reason he “ducked” Pacquiao. Quite frankly I am surprised Pacman is even brought up in conversations.

Pacquiao knockoutCorrect me if I’m wrong, did Pacquiao not just get knocked spark out by Marquez? The same Marquez, Pacquiao struggled against in 36 rounds of their 3 previous fights, getting 2 very contentious wins and a questionable draw?

The same Marquez Floyd fought after taking a two-year hiatus and didn’t allow Marquez to win a single round in their fight? Do me a favour!!!!!

You are only as good as your last fight, Pacquiao’s last memory of a fighter is being flat-out, face down on the canvas. He needs to come back and we need to see how he is before he’s put back in the equation.

Oh and just for the nit pickers…..Lets not talk about weight. Pacquiao and Marquez’ third fight was at 144 catch-weight the same weight Marquez fought Mayweather P4P(although Floyd weighed 146). In their fourth fight Pacquiao weighed 147 while Marquez weighed 143. Who got knocked out?

Pacquiao’s fight with Cotto was fought at a 145 catch-weight, so Cotto had to move down. Floyd moved up to the 154 light middleweight limit to fight Cotto. Against Shane Mosley, Pacquaio fought him at the welterweight 147 limit. Floyd fought Mosley at the heavier light middleweight 154 limit.

Haters please note: I just named three fighters both Pacquiao and Mayweather have fought in recent years. If you add Hatton and De la Hoya, that would be five fighters. Three out of the five fighters Floyd fought before Pacquiao. So I guess that puts an end to the Floyd picking easy fights argument.

MayweatherEnd of the day, the haters will say what they want to say. I’m sure Mayweather’s antics over the years totally put them off (I don’t like a lot of the things he does outside the ring) and they desperately want to see him lose. But I know boxing, and recognise a supreme skilled boxer when I see one.

I guarantee, in years to come coaches will put on boxing clinics based on all Floyd Mayweather’s fights. The man is just too good and too gifted. 44-0 HATERS!
