PREMIER LEAGUE 2019 TEAM OF THE SEASON

PREMIER LEAGUE 2019 TEAM OF THE SEASON

It was another exciting Premier League season. One of the most exciting in its history as the league title went down to the final day of the season. With Man City retaining the title and Liverpool recording the most points ever for a second place team.

Typically, everyone will have their own idea’s of who should make the team of the year and typically, many may argue and dispute the final 11. However, this is my choices, I have my own reasons and I am sticking to it……Enjoy!

GOALKEEPER
Alisson (Liverpool)

Finished his debut season with the most clean sheets. It’s all good and well saying he had a superb defence in front of him to help, but numbers don’t lie. So more importantly, those numbers saw him finish top for shots to save percentage. He also finished top for goals allowed and saved the one penalty he faced in the season. There was no doubt he has been a revelation for Liverpool this season in a position that had become a real problem.

Runner-Up
Lukaz Fabianski (West Ham)

RIGHT BACK
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

At just 20, he’s really had a break out season and performed admirably in some huge games, under some real pressured circumstances. Going forward, he has been a real weapon with his excellent, pinpoint deliveries, which saw him break the record for most assists for by a defender in a single season. There were questions over his defending but over the course of the season he answered those with some solid displays.

Runner-Up
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace)

CENTRE BACK
Aymeric Laporte (Manchester City)

I think he has been somewhat of an unsung hero and still a very underrated defender. Rarely flustered or forced into mistakes. He has been the main stay in City’s defence, playing alongside various different players without any change in his performance. Also had an eye for goal and pop up on a few occasions to notch for his team, most notably, the goal that put them 2-1 up on the final day of the season.

Runner-Up
Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham)

CENTRE BACK
Virgil Van Dijk (Liverpool)

There is not much more to add when he is the Premier League players, player of the season. It’s the mark of a top player when he comes in for, at the time, a huge controversial and questionable, transfer fee. However, over the course of the season, his performances has been so good that that once astronomical fee, looks an absolute bargain. Scary to think that he can improve.

Runner-Up
Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)

LEFT BACK
Andy Robertson (Liverpool)

It’s amazing to think that only six years ago he was playing for Queens Park in the Scottish first division. And just two years ago, he was getting relegated with Hull. He has been a revelation, marauding down the left for Liverpool with his all energy displays in defence, tracking back and making last ditch tackles. Also, in attack, where he was a valuable asset with his deliveries, creating numerous goals. One of the first one the team sheet.

Runner-Up
Lucas Digne (Everton)

LEFT MIDFIELD
Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

Obviously plays further forward but for the purpose of this team he is further back. Without him, Chelsea’s season could have and would have been so much worse. Played the talisman and go to guy role superbly. Was the main man, new it and invariably step up to the plate to help his team get past teams. Scored his 50th league goal this season and was directly involved in more goals than any other player with 16 goals and 15 assists.

Runner-Up
Christian Eriksen (Tottenham)

CENTRE MIDFIELD
Fernandinho (Manchester City)

I have long admired this player and although he had a few injured issues in the season. He played more than enough games to make an impact. The original unsung hero. Plays that defensive midfield role so unselfishly and always seems to be one of the top performers in the big games. Highly reliable, solid to the core, yet excellent on the ball and can be creative when needs be. It will be a tough job to replace him.

Runner-Up
Fabinho (Liverpool)

RIGHT MIDFIELD
Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)

Another who has really been an unsung hero. Actually, over the course of the season he went from unsung hero to a go to guy. On numerous occasions, he drove his team full of stars, forward and had a faze where he seemed to be the most likely. He made it virtually impossible to drop him and kept the likes of Mahrez & Sane out. Finished a very productive season with 7 goals and 7 assists.

Runner-Up
Son Heung-Min (Tottenham)

RIGHT FORWARD
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Although he played to some good affect on the left. Much more preferred him on the right where he used his pace and all his trickery to stretch, tease and torment defenders. Really came of age this season and seemed to kick on midway through the season and improve. His decision making also seemed to get better which improved both is goal and assist numbers, which made him a every dangerous, main stay in the team.

Runner-Up
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

CENTRE FORWARD
Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

For me, he has been a victim of his own ability. Has been so consistently good, that you almost expect it and therefore it comes as no surprise when he is exceptional. But season in, season out, he is putting up incredible numbers. It’s now five season in a row he has scored 20 or more goals and as usual, when his team need a goal, more often that not he delivers or is involved in it. The quintessential big game player.

Runner-Up
Harry Kane (Tottenham)

LEFT FORWARD
Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

I personally thought he was one of the Liverpool’s most consistent players throughout the course of the season. Really stepped up his level of performances and became the main man for a long period of time where he seemed unplayable and couldn’t stop scoring. His goals lifted him to a share of the golden boot award. And did it without scoring any penalties, which I feel should have been taken into consideration.

Runner-Up
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal)
