TEAM: TOTTENHAM
There were several candidates for this and even though Spurs won it in stoppage time, breaking a record for being the latest team losing to come back and win the game, as well as the manor of the comeback victory sneaked it for them.
Spurs, since Conte come in are on a great run and are still undefeated and this come from behind victory really showed exactly why. Well done also to Man City, Man Utd, Norwich, Leeds, Liverpool and Wolves.
GOALKEEPER: DAVID DE GEA (Man Utd)
He had two games this week and both demonstrated just how good he is playing at the moment.
At Villa, although conceded two, he faced more shots and had to be at his best to stop most early on. Then at Brentford, his team survived an early onslaught with him pulling off a string of early saves that settled his team to go on to get a comfortable victory.
Shout out also to Wolves’ Sa, Newcastle’s Dubravka, Southampton’s Forster and Palace’s Butland.
DEFENDER: ADAM WEBSTER (Brighton)
This was a close one this week and it could have gone to several candidates. However, not only did he play well at home to Palace where they drew.
But he scored a superb bullet header to get his team level against Chelsea, in a game where he kept the likes of Lukaku, and Mount, then later on Havertz & Werner relatively quiet with numerous blocks, interceptions and tackles for a well-deserved man of the match performance against the European Champions.
Well done also to his teammate Williams. Wolves duo Coady & Kilman, Man City duo Cancelo & Laporte, Man Utd’s Dalot and Norwich’s Hanley who was close to winning this.
MIDFIELDER: JACK HARRISON (Leeds)
Just when Leeds needed a performance, it was perfect timing for Harrison to get his first career hat-trick, at the most unexpected time and place, away to West Ham.
He showed a blend off good finishing, great timing, awareness, anticipation and being in the right place at the right time to seal a vital win for his team.
Shout out also to his teammate Raphinha, West Ham duo Bowen & Fornals, Liverpool’s Fabinho, Palace’s Gallagher, Villa duo Coutinho & Ramsey, Man Utd’s Fernandes & Elanga, Wolves’ Moutinho, Southampton’s Ward-Prowse, Man City’s De Bruyne and Chelsea’s Ziyech.
FORWARD: STEVEN BERGWIJN (Tottenham)
There wasn’t much to choose from this week, if any to be honest, but even if it was by default and he is more of a midfielder or winger, he came on to play just behind Kane and stayed forward, literally to the final whistle.
He was in the right place at the right time to get the equaliser, but not content with that. He again stayed forward, running beyond Kane to latch onto a through ball and finish superbly to get a very late, very dramatic equaliser.
Well done also to Liverpool trio Firmino, Oxlade-Chamberlain & Minamino, Everton’s Richarlison, Man Utd duo Rashford & Greenwood, Newcastle’s Saint-Maximin, Watford’s Joao Pedro and Wolves’ Traore and Norwich’s Idah who was close to winning this.
MANAGER: ANTONIO CONTE (Tottenham)
This is not just because his team broke the record for being the latest team to be losing to come back in win. But his team were much the better in the game and fully deserved it.
In Addition, that last gasp win maintains his unbeaten run where he has seemed to galvanise his team who are licking their lips at a strong prospect of a Champions League place.
UNSUNG HERO: ANTHONY ELANGA (Man Utd)
Credit to the manager as he put his faith in him. However, starting over the like of Rashford, Sancho, Martial and Lingard.
The teenager more than repaid the managers faith with a good and spirited performance at Villa.
Then at Brentford, after being on the ropes in the first half, it was his perfectly timed run to latched onto the ball and finish with his head to open the scoring and help his team on the way to a good away win.
GAME: LEICESTER 2-3 TOTTENHAM
In an end to end game where Kane hit the post and then the bar before a goal was scored. Leicester took the lead against the run of play when Lookman, just outside the box exchanged passes with Daka, as Lookman was about to shoot, a challenge came in, but the ball fell to Daka who squeezed in a shot at the near post (44).
Spurs got their equaliser when Winks won the ball in midfield and played a ball over the top for Kane to expertly control, turn inside his maker and finish with his left in off the post (38).
Leicester then went ahead again when Maddisoin exchanged paseses with Tielemans from the edge to inside the box and swept home despite Sanchez’ challenge (76).
Spurs then got a late equaliser when Hojbjerg played a ball into the box for Doherty, who took down on his chest, the ball then came off Soyuncu trying to block and it fell invitingly for Bergwijn to lash home (90+5).
But it wasnt done there, seconds laster, Kane, in space, slipped Bergwijn though on goal. He outpaced Soyuncu, rounded Schmeichel and stroked home in the opposite corner, past Soyuncu who ran to the near post (90+7).
GOAL: RICHARLSON (Everton) v Norwich
A corner was swung in from the right, which Krul got to and punched out to the left. The ball was then picked up by Mykolenko who swung a first time, high ball back into the box.
Krul again came out and punched to the edge of the area. But as the ball dropped, with his back to goal, Richarlison executed an excellent overhead kick volley that went over Krul and the defender on the line to slam into the back of the net.
There were also good goals from Man City’s De Bruyne, Southampton’s Ward-Prowse and Man Utd’s Fernandes.
FOOL: RAFA BENITEZ (Everton)
It’s so bad that he’s got everyone calling him agent Rafa and his time at Everton will only be memorable for the red half of Merseyside.
Since he’s come in, he got rid of Digne, got rid of a few other backroom staff and now after this terrible defeat to Norwich, he leaves Everton on a run of 1 win in his last 13 league games, with Everton just six points off the relegation zone.
He can hardly be surprised at being sacked or being called agent Rafa. FOOL!
