TEAM: BRENTFORD
Nobody expected this result. Brentford wasn’t given hope going to Man City, but they had a game plan and played it well. It helped that they got an early goal.
However, when city equalised on the stroke of halftime, you were expecting them to go on to steamroll Brentford in the second half. But Brentford was solid defensively, doubling and tripling up.
Then caught city with the old smash and grab at the death to snatch a victory. Well done also to Aston Villa. Bournemouth. Leicester. Man Utd. Newcastle. Liverpool and Tottenham.
GOALKEEPER: ALISSON (Liverpool)
Although the result looked comfortable for Liverpool, it was far from it. They raced into a 3-1 lead in the first half, but the game could have been so much different in the second, as their defensive frailties showed up again.
However, the Brazilian was on his game, making three outstanding saves in the second half, including two one on ones, to maintain his team’s two-goal lead and pick up an important home win.
Shout out also to Fulham’s Leno. Man Utd’s De Gea. West Ham’ Fabianski. Bournemouth’s Travers. Leicester’s Ward and Brentford’s Raya.
DEFENDER: ANDY ROBERTSON (Liverpool)
With all the talk about defensive frailties and creative fullbacks, the Scotsman continues to show his abilities in both.
While being solid at the back, he continues to create for his team, and his two assists in the first half, takes him to 53, making him the joint-most assisting defender in Premier League history.
Well done also to his teammate Van Dijk. Brentford’s Pinnock, Zanka & Mee. Man Utd duo Martinez & Lindelof. Forest duo Boly & Aurier. Leicester’s Faes, also Newcastle’s Trippier, Schar, Botman & Burn.
MIDFIELDER: MARTIN ODEGAARD (Arsenal)
He is leading his team in a big way. Arsenal didn’t have the best of games, but when they needed a leader, he popped up, to show his intelligence and awareness to be in the right place at the right time to bag two valuable goals, for three valuable away points to see his team sit five points ahead at the top of the table going into the break.
Shout out also to his teammate Vieira. Brentford’s Henry, Roerslev, Onyeka & Da Silva. Liverpool duo Thiago & Elliot. Villa duo McGinn & Luiz. Fulham’s Palhinha & James. Man Utd’s Eriksen. Spurs duo Bentancur & Kulusevski. Leeds’ Summerville. Leicester duo Maddison & Barnes. Newcastle’s Willock Also Bournemouth’s Tavernier who was close to winning this.
FORWARD: IVAN TONEY (Brentford)
The only way to get over not being called up to the World Cup is to go to the home of the champions and score two goals to win the game.
Although Brentford was up against it all game, he was still a handful and did some good defensive work. Impressively showed desire and energy in the last minutes to make up the ground in the counter-attack to score the winner, and could have had a hat-trick.
Well done also to Villa’s Ings. Man City’s Foden. Bournemouth duo Moore & Anthony. Brighton’s Mac Allister. Southampton’s Adams. Leeds’ Rodrigo. Spurs Kane. Forest’s Gibbs-White also Liverpool duo Firmino and Nunes.
MANAGER: THOMAS FRANK (Brentford)
There is no doubt this was probably one of the best moments of his managerial career. Not many managers can boast about going to Man City and turning them over.
He knew exactly what his team needed to do and seemed to drill them to perfection. Play wing backs, sit deep, close the spaces and stop the runners. Then when you get the ball, attack with pace and athleticism.
It’s a blueprint for all teams to follow, providing you have the players to do it.
UNSUNG HERO: RODRIGO BENTANCUR (Tottenham)
I could have put him in the midfielder award, and to be fair, he could have won this award in previous weeks, so although not exactly unsung, he more than deserves this.
With his team up against it, and staring a third defeat in a row in the face, he stepped up to grab the game by the scruff to notch two goals in two minutes to turn a 3-2 defeat into a 4-3 win. He is developing a knack for winning games.
Well done also to Bournemouth’s Tavernier. Leicester duo Faes & Barnes, also Man Utd’s Garnacho.
GAME: TOTTENHAM 4-3 LEEDS UNITED
Leeds opened the scoring early when Aaronson turned and played in Summerville, who took the ball in his stride and sweep home at the near post (10).
Spurs levelled from a corner, following a Meslier punch. Kane at the far post expertly took the ball down to lash home (18). Leeds took the lead when Rodrigo volleyed in, first time, from Kristensen’s header into the box (43).
In the second half. Spurs equalised from Davies’ powerful hit from outside the box, which went through the keeper, and off a defender and in (51). Leeds once again took the lead when Rodrigo angled a low effort into the far corner following Roca’s through ball (76).
Bentancur then pulled the game level again when following a header out of the box, he took the ball down, and his low shot was deflected in (81).
A minute later, Bentancur won it following a good move where Kane played Kulusevski in down the right, who beat the defender and cut back for the Uruguayan to turn in the first time (83). There was still time for Leeds’ Adams to get a second yellow (87).
GOAL: JOE WILLOCK (Newcastle) v Chelsea
Joelinton picked up the ball in midfield and hooked it forward to Almiron running down the right.
As the ball bounced, he controlled with his head, and touched it inside a defender, then headed down once again running across the box. As the ball rolled, it fell to Willock running in, who hit a first-time effort that curled into the far corner of the net.
FOOL: FRANK LAMPARD (Everton)
Graham Potter and Chelsea are lucky as they would or should be up here. However, After a promising start for Everton, it is now looking like a nightmare, with only one win in their last seven games.
They went out of the Carabao Cup in the week, looking to bounce back, they got trounced twice in a few days at Bournemouth, who leapfrogged them in the table.
Everton are now one place, and one point above the relegation zone going into the World Cup break and the team are looking in dire straits. FOOL!
