TEAM: TOTTENHAM
I’d say almost by default, as there wasn’t much competition this week, Spurs takes this. However, it was earned by humiliating Man Utd aided by a sending-off.
With that said, they came out of the traps fast in both halves, scoring within two minutes each time to secure a long overdue and comfortable Old Trafford victory.
Well done also to Bournemouth. Chelsea. Fulham. Arsenal. Everton and Liverpool.
GOALKEEPER: MADS HERMANSEN (Leicester)
Although beaten four times in the game, he still deserved this award. Arsenal peppered his goal with a massive 36 shots, 16 on target and 17 corners.
However, in the second half, when the scores were level, he played like a man possessed and was equal to everything. But it took two deflected efforts to beat him twice in stoppage time.
Shout out also to Newcastle’s Pope and Aston Villa’s Martinez.
DEFENDER: JOACHIM ANDERSON (Fulham)
Since his arrival in the summer, he has transitioned into the team seamlessly and already looks like a leader with some solid performances.
This was another man-of-the-match performance where they reduced Forest to just one shot on target all game.
Well done also to his teammate Robinson. Spurs foursome Van de Ven, Romero, Udogie & Porro. Liverpool duo Van Dijk & Konate. Leicester’s Justin. Man City’s Gvardial. Palace’s Guehi.
Southampton’s Harwood-Bellis. Newcastle’s Burn. Ipswich’s Davis. Brentford duo Van den Berg & Pinnock. West Ham’s Todibo. Everton duo Tarkowski & Branthwaite also Wolves’ Ait-Nouri.
MIDFIELDER: COLE PALMER (Chelsea)
It was not the hardest decision I will make this season. The Chelsea superstar is picking up where he left off last season and then some.
Breaking more records, becoming the first player to score four goals in the first half all his goals were taken superbly, including a classy free kick. He also hit the post and had a goal chalked off.
Shout out also to his teammate Sancho. Everton’s McNeil. Arsenal’s Trossard. West Ham’s Soucek. Ipswich’s Hutchinson. Villa duo Rogers & Bailey. Spurs’ Kulusevski.
Man City’s Grealish. Fulham’s Troare. Liverpool’s Gravenberch. Brighton’s Baleba, also Bournemouth duo Semenyo & Cook.
FORWARD: LIAM DELAP (Ipswich)
The 21-year-old striker earned his team a superb home point against Villa with two superb finishes that showed all his qualities.
He took his first goal very well, but the second was magical, tricking the defender and firing past a World Cup winner.
Well done also to Villa’s Watkins. Spurs duo Solanke & Johnson. Arsenal trio Martinelli, Havertz & Saka.
Newcastle’s Gordon. Brentford’s Mbeumo. Bournemouth’s Evenilson. Brighton’s Rutter. Fulham’s Jimenez and Liverpool duo Jota & Salah.
MANAGER: MARCO SILVA (Fulham)
Somewhat under the radar, although it’s still early days, Silva has started the season very well, with his new signing performing and Fulham up to sixth.
His team look solid defensively, rarely shipping many goals, and are dangerous in attack. They did a professional job at Forest with a solid 1-0 away win.
Well done also to Tottenham’s Postecoglou and Chelsea’s Maresca.
UNSUNG HERO: DWIGHT MCNEIL (Everton)
There were several potentials for this award, but head and shoulders above the rest was the Eveton man whose two goals got his team a first win of the season.
After going a goal down, he levelled it with a wonderful finish from outside the box. He then got the winner with another bit of quality, showing a lovely touch and finish, up close.
Shout out also to Arsenal’s Trossard. Liverpool duo Gravenberch & Konate. Brentford’s Mbeumo. Spurs duo Ven de Ven & Kulusevski, also, Bounemouth’s Samenyo.
GAME: ARSENAL 4-2 LEICESTER
Arsenal looked comfortable as they took an early lead through Martinelli’s pinpoint finish (20), then Trossard on the stroke of halftime (45+1).
In the second half, to everyone’s surprise, Leicester pulled a goal back from Justin’s deflected header (47), then scored a shock equaliser with a beautiful volley (63).
Just when you thought Leicester were heading for an unexpected away point. Arsenal scored twice in stoppage time through an Ndidi OG (90+4) and Havertz (90+9).
There was also a good game at Portman Road, where Ipswich drew 2-2 with Aston Villa and Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea beat Brighton 4-2.
GOAL: JAMES JUSTIN (Leicester) vs Arsenal
This was another category which had a few possibilities. But all things considered, I went with the fullback’s wonderful volley.
N’Didi played a cross from wide left. Running into the box, Justin, watched it all the way, and as the ball dropped, with perfect connection and technique, he cut across the ball for a superb volley that saw the ball swerve out and then back inside the far post.
There were also good goals from Chelsea’s Palmer and Everton’s McNeil.
FOOL: ERIK TEN HAG (Man Utd)
In all my time watching football, I have never seen Man Utd so bad. The sending-off aside, they were atrocious against Spurs, not for the first time.
In three seasons’ United still lack a style of play. He has spent over £600m on players, but it’s the same old rubbish. Now, even his most loyal supporters are saying enough is enough. FOOL!
