TEAM: TOTTENHAM
It’s typical of Spurs to go from being the fool of the week after losing at home to Ipswich, then go to The Etihad and destroy Man City 4-0 in the next game.
This is arguably Spurs’ greatest-ever Premier League performance, thrashing the champions to end their unbeaten 52-game home record.
Well done also to Wolves. West Ham. Arsenal. Brighton. Liverpool and Chelsea.
GOALKEEPER: MARK FLEKKEN (Brentford)
Brentford certainly needed their keeper if they were to come away from Goodison Park with something, especially after going a man down three minutes into the second half.
Everton must have thought it was their opportunity to take advantage and get a win, but Flekken was in top form to thwart everyone Everton did to earn a good away point.
Shout out also to Spurs’ Vicario. Man Utd’s Onana. Brighton’s Verbruggen and Palace’s Henderson.
DEFENDER: AARON WAN-BISSAKA (West Ham)
It is no exaggeration to say nobody expected West Ham to get a win at Newcastle, who had won their last three, let alone a clean sheet.
However, the West Ham full-back, along with the help of his teammates shut out Newcastle. He was solid on his flank defensively, then popped up at the other end with a lovely finish for the second to seal the game.
Well done also to his teammates Kilman. Brighton foursome Igor, Veltman, Van Hecke & Estupinan. Spurs foursome Porro, Dragusin, Davies & Odogie. Wolves trio Ait Nouri, Toti & Semedo. Brentford’s Lewis-Potter.
Palace’s Lacroix. Arsenal foursome Timber, Saliba, Gabriel & Calafiori. Chelsea’s Badiashile. Ipswich’s O’Shea.
MIDFIELDER: JAMES MADDISON (Tottenham)
Although the birthday boy was pushed close by his teammate for this award. His two goals set his team on the way to a once-in-a-lifetime performance and result.
He showed awareness to drift in at the back post to cushion a left-footed volley in for the opener. His second was an even better finish with a deft touch, following neat footwork.
Shout out also to his teammates Kulusevski & Bissouma. Wolves’ duo Lamina & J.Gomes. Arsenal trio Odegaard, Partey & Nwaneri. Liverpool duo Gravenberch & Szoboszlai. Ipswich’s Hutchinson. Chelsea duo E.Fernandez & Caicedo.
West Ham duo Soucek & Paqueta. Man Utd’s Amad. Palace duo Devenny & Munoz. Brentford duo Janelt & Jensen. Fulham’s Iwobi. Bournemouth duo Semenyo & Brooks. Villa’s Barkley. Southampton’s Dibling & Fernandes.
FORWARD: MATHEUS CUNHA (Wolves)
He was head and shoulders above everyone else and easily deserved the Man of the Match award with two quality finishes.
His first, the equaliser, was a superb touch to drag the ball out of the sky, then neat close control and finish. His second was extensive and explosive, from 25 yards out, first time into the far corner, pure class.
Well done also to his teammate Guedes. Liverpool’s Salah. Brighton duo Pedro & Mitoma. Palace’s Sarr. Villa’s Watkins. Arsenal’s Saka. Chelsea’s Jackson
Man Utd’s Rashford. Spurs trio Son, Solanke & Johnson. Southampton duo Armstrong and Onuachu. Leicester’s Ayew and West Ham’s Antonio.
MANAGER: ANGE POSTECOGLOU (Tottenham)
His team put in a performance of a lifetime to destroy the champions in their stadium.
It was also a masterclass of coaching from the Aussie who had his main two centre-backs out. He dropped Johnson, brought in birthday boy Maddison, and put Kulusevski on the right to superb effect.
Shout out also to Wolves’ O’Neil, Brighton’s Hurzeler and West Ham’s Lopetegui.
UNSUNG HERO: DEJAN KULUSEVSKI (Tottenham)
He was close to and possibly deserved the midfielder award without scoring, but his assist for the first goal set the tone.
He was unplayable throughout the game, not only on the ball but running off it, from arguably Spurs’ best performer this season.
Well done also to Ipswich’s Hutchinson. Brighton’s Pedro. Arsenal’s Nwaneri. Spurs duo Davies & Dragusin.
GAME: SOUTHAMPTON 2-3 LIVERPOOL
Liverpool opened the scoring when Szoboslai took advantage of Southampton’s failure to clear, and he curled in a lovely left-footed finish (30)
Southampton got a penalty when Robertson fouled Dibling on the edge of the box, and Armstrong scored on the second attempt after Kelleher saved (42). The Saints then went ahead when Fernandes rounded off a great breakaway move (56).
Salah equalised when he touched Gravenberch’s ball over the top, past the keeper, who had rushed out his goal (65). He then won it from the spot when sub, Sugawara handled in the box (83).
GOAL: MATHEUS CUNHA 2nd (Wolves) vs Fulham
Cunha worked hard initially to fend off a Fulham player. The ball then fell to J.Gomes, around thirty yards away from goal.
J.Gomes, touched the ball forward to Cunha, who, in an instant, curled an unbelievable first-time curling effort from the edge of the box that crashed into the far top corner.
There were also excellent goals from Fulham’s Iwobi. Ipswich’s Hutchinson and
FOOL: MANCHESTER CITY
On the rarest of rare occasions, the Premier League champions experience three league defeats in a row.
It is even rarer to see Man City’s name up here. It’s fair to say the Premier League champions for the last four years could be in crisis after being humiliated by Spurs in front of their fans, to make it five defeats in a row in all comps. FOOLS!
