WEEKLY AWARDS: January 4th-6th 2025

TEAM: NOTTINGHAM FOREST

The form side in the Premier League wrapped up their sixth straight win, the first team in the Premier League to do that this season, with a dominant display at Wolves.

It’s their best winning run in the top flight since the 1960s, with some devastating counter-attacking football and clinical finishing.

Well done to Newcastle. Man City. Bournemouth. Aston Villa and Brentford, who were close to winning this.

GOALKEEPER: JORDON PICKFORD (Everton)

There were few outstanding goalkeeper performances this week, so I went with someone on the losing side.

However, he wasn’t to blame. Bournemouth bombarded the Everton goal but only scored once. This was down to Pickford’s heroics, as the score should have been much worse.

Shout out to Forest’s Sels. Tottenham’s Austin. Chelsea’s Sanchez and Man Utd’s Onana.

DEFENDER: MILOS KERKEZ (Bournemouth)

He has received a lot of praise this season, and you can see why with another inspiring display against Everton.

Not only did he limit attacks down his flank, but he also contributed to reducing Everton to no shots on goal. It was his pinpoint cross that assisted the winning goal.

Well done to his teammates Zabarnyi, Hill and Huijsen. Brighton duo Van Hecke & Igor. Newcastle’s Livramento. Ipswich duo Woolfenden & Greaves. Man Utd’s Martinez. Villa’s Maatsen. Forest duo Murillo & Aina.

Spurs duo Porro & Spence. Liverpool’s Van Dijk. Palace’s Lacroix. Chelsea duo Gusto & Acheampong and Brentford foursome Roerslev, Collins, Van den Berg & Lewis-Potter.

MIDFIELDER: SAVINHO (Man City)

It has only taken five months, but the Champions could finally have the player they thought they bought in the summer.

Fresh off his first City goal last week, he continued this week by assisting two and forcing an own goal with positive and skilful attacking play that West Ham couldn’t handle.

Shout out to his teamamtes De Bruyne & Foden. Man Utd trio Amad, Fernendez & Ugarte. Aston Villa duo Barkely & Bailey. Newcastle duo Guimaraes & Joelinton. Bournemouth duo Brooks & Semenyo.

Arsenal’s Nwaneri. Leicester’s Mavadidi. Liverpool’s Mac Allister. Palace duo Munoz & Eze. Chelsea duo Palmer & Sancho. Brentford’s Damsgaard. Brighton’s Beleba and Forest trio Elanga, Hudson-Odoi and Gibbs-White.

FORWARD: BRYAN MBUEMO (Brentford)

Everyone connected to Brentford was worried after Toney’s exit, but those fears are a distant memory as the Brentford strikers have stepped up this season.

Mbuemo put in a man-of-the-match performance, scoring two and assisting one, in their destruction of Southampton and is now joint third in the scoring charts.

Well done to his teammates Wissa & Shade. Man City’s Haaland. Newcastle duo Isak & Gordon. Liverpool’s Gakpo. Forest duo Wood & Awaonyi.

Fulham’s Jimenez. Brighton’s Joao Pedro. Tottenham’s Solanke.Palace’s Mateta. West Ham’s Fullkrug also Ipswich duo Szmodics & Delap.

MANAGER: NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO (Notts Forest)

Nuno has Forest flying at the moment. The win against Wolves made it six in a row, including four clean sheets.

It is a huge credit to the manager who is getting the best out of the players offensively and defensively. They are now up to joint second, six points behind the leaders.

Shout out to Newcastle’s Howe. Man City’s Guardiola and Brentford’s Frank, who was close to winning this.

UNSUNG HERO: YOANE WISSA (Brentford)

This was the toughest decision this week with several potential candidates. However, I went with the Brentford forward, who is Brentford’s record Premier League scorer.

Despite Mbeumo scoring twice, his goal put him ahead with 36 for Brentford and his 10th this season. The formidable partnership with Mbeumo only bodes well for Brentford, and I suspect that record may change hands a few times this season.

Well done to his teamamte Lewis-Potter. Bournemouth’s Brooks. Tottenham’s Austin. Man Utd’s Fernandez and Arsenal’s Nwaneri.

GAME: LIVERPOOL 2-2 MAN UTD

After a bit of a stalemate in the first half, the second exploded into action as early as the 52nd minute when Martinez took advantage of poor defending to rifle into the roof of the net.

However, Liverpool equalised following excellent work from Gakpo to cut inside and slam into the top corner (57). Liverpool then took the lead when Salah converted a penalty after De Ligt handled (70).

But ten minutes later, Man Utd equalised when Amad turned in Garnacho’s cross to earn a commendable away point (80).

GOAL: DAVID BROOKS (Bournemouth) vs Everton

The move started with Huijsen in the left-back position. He played a long ball down the left flank, flicked on by Semenyo, into Kerkez’s path.

The Bournemouth left-back then put in a first-time ball to the right side of the box for Brooks, running onto the ball, who executed a side-footed volley into the far corner of the net.

Liverpool’s Gakpo also scored a good goal this week.

FOOL: SOUTHAMPTON

West Ham were lucky Southampton were so bad as they would be here. However, though they sacked Russell Martin, I see no change in the team, and they quite possibly look like a worse team now.

They currently have the worst record in Premier League history after 20 games, and after their third 5-0 home defeat, new manager Juric has a real job on his hands. FOOLS!
