TEAM: MAN CITY
Despite the season they’ve had, you always knew if someone caught them on a good day, they would be in trouble and Newcastle was that team.
From the first whistle City seemed back to their menacing best and swarming all over Newcastle scoring four goals and were unlucky just to score four.
Well done to Brighton who almost won this, Everton, Arsenal, Brentford. Bournemouth, Tottenham, Fulham and Liverpool.
GOALKEEPER: ALEX PALMER (Ipswich)
Ipswich new going to Villa Park that their keeper would be busy and would need to perform if they were to get something.
Their job was even harder when they went down to 10 men in the first half. However, the Ipswich keeper had a man of the match performance to frustrate Vill and earn a thrilling away point.
Shout out to Tottenham’s Vicario. Liverpool’s Alisson. Everton’s. Pickford. Southampton’s Ramsdale. Man City’s Ederson and Forest’s Sels.
DEFENDER: JAMES TARKOWSKI (Everton)
From the benefit of playing two games, you can say he had two very good games for two very different reasons.
Against Liverpool equipped himself very well although Liverpool scored two, then when a hero was needed, he stepped up to rifle home an equaliser. Then at Palace, he was the stand out defender as Everton got a super away win for a superb week.
Well done to his teammate Branthwaite. Spurs duo Danso & Spence. Crystal Palace’s Guehi. Brentford foursome Van den Berg, Collins, Ajar & Lewis-Potter.
Bournemouth’s Huijsen, Man City’s Stones. Fulham Bassy. Ipswich trio O’Shea, Greaves & Townsend. Arsenal’s Lewis-Skelly and Brighton foursome Veltmen, Van Hecke, Webster, & Lamptey.
MIDFIELDER: MIKEL MERINO (Arsenal)
The Arsenal midfielder become one of the most unlikely super subs to drag his team to victory and keep their title hopes alive.
As the game was heading for a disappointing 0-0 draw, he stepped up to head home and send his team on the way to victory. To make things even better, he got a second with another well-timed run and finish to ease any late nerves.
Shout out to his teammate Rice. Spurs’s Maddison. Brighton trio Minteh, Baleba & Hinshelwood. Bournemouth trio Christie, Tavanier & Semenyo.
Brentford’s Damsgaard. Man City’s McAtee. Fulham duo Smith Rowe & Traore. Liverpool’s Mac Allister and Everton’s Garner.
FORWARD: OMAR MARMOUSH (Man City)
In only his third game for Man City he has already bagged a hat-trick to destroy Newcastle and put a newfound fear into the league.
You see exactly why City paid the money for him, his opening goal demonstrated a lovely, timed run and finish. His next two showed his clinical instincts and keen eye for a goal.
Well done to Everton duo Beto & Alcaraz. Brighton trio Mitoma, Rutter & Welbeck. Liverpool duo Salah & Diaz. Wolves’ Cunha. Ipswich’s Delap. Arsenal’s Nwaneri.
Palace’s Mateta. Brentford trio Schide, Wissa & Mbeumo. Southampton’s Sulumana, Bournemouth’s Ouattara. Forest’s Wood and Villa’s Watkins
MANAGER: FABRIAN HURZELER (Brighton)
After being destroyed 7-0 by Forest just two weeks ago, his team responded with two victories over the billionaires.
First in the FA Cup, then followed this up just a few days later to take Chelsea apart again in a comfortable home victory where they did not allow Chelsea one shot on goal.
Shout out also to Man City’s Guardiola. Arsenal’s Arteta. Everton’s Moyes. Fulham’s Silva and Tottenham’s Postecoglou.
UNSUNG HERO: ETHAN NWANERI (Arsenal)
There were a few candidates for this, but I couldn’t ignore this young superstar. It’s amazing to think he is still just 17 and putting in performances like this in top class football.
While Arsenal was struggling to make an impact at Leicester it was, he who to the game by the scruff of the neck and was trying to make things happen and it was his cross that created the opening goal in the 81st minute.
Well done also to Everton’s Beto. Brighton’s Minteh and Fulham’s Bassy.
GAME: EVERTON 2-2 LIVERPOOL
In the last Merseyside derby at Goodison. You knew there was going to be drama. Beto opened the scoring from a controversial free kick, with a well timed run and finish. However, Mac Allister quickly equalised with an equally good, timed run and header.
In the second half, Salah scored to give Liverpool the lead following up play to put in a rebound. After a thrilling back and forth half, in the 90+8 minute, Tarkowski found space in the box and volleyed into the roof of the net to send Goodison into raptures.
GOAL: KAORU MITOMA (Brighton) vs Chelsea
From a long goal kick from Verbruggen that cleared everybody and set Mitoma chasing towards goal with a defender.
He watched the ball all the way and let it drop, to control expertly on the in step. He then then took a touch, cut inside the defender and curled a low effort into the bottom far corner.
FOOL: CHELSEA
Man Utd are lucky as they could have easily been here. However, just two short months ago, Chelsea was second and there were legitimate whispers about them making a title challenge.
Since then, they have been in free fall. Three league wins in ten. Out of the fa cup, back-to-back losses to nil to Brighton and have gone from potential title challengers to possibly not finishing in a Champions League place. FOOLS!
