MOMENTUS IN MONTREAL

UFC315 was the UFC’s first visit to Montreal in a decade. The last time theY held an event in Montreal was UFC186 in April 2015 in the same Bell Centre.

In the UFC’s eighth visit to Montreal, during the event, it was announced that former light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort would be the next Hall of Fame inductee in the “pioneer wing”.

Of the twelve bouts on the card, there were five stoppages, including three KO’s, with seven going the distance, including one split decision.

TOP PERFORMER: JASMINE JASUDAVICIUS

Although Andrade lost her last fight and lost four of her last six, he had recently beaten Marina Rodriquez and Makenzie Dern and was still a ferocious puncher.

However, she came up against the determined Canadian who had the whole nation behind her in the arena and fed off that energy as she took it to Andrea from the bell.

She looked confident on the feet with some straight right hands, then landed a big take down. She then worked her way into the choke and tapped out the former champion for a fifth straight UFC win.

TOP PERFORMER 2: JACK DELLA MADDALENA

The Aussie, also known as JDM, came into the fight confident but as an underdog against the welterweight champion Belal Muhammad, who has been unbeaten since 2019, and in eleven fights.

JDM demonstrated tremendous boxing skills, mixing his shots up to the body and head and showed surprising takedown defence, holding Belal at bay throughout the fight.

It was a back-and-forth fight of attrition where JDM showed his gas tank qualities to step it up in the fifth, beating Belal to the punch and closing the show for a unanimous points victory to claim the UFC welterweight title.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS

Valentina Shevchenko bizarrely came into this as the underdog against the bigger, stronger Manon Fiorot. However, the UFC women’s flyweight champion defended her title for the eighth time in two spells with a combination of intelligent, precise striking, timely take downs, excellent movement and smart defence to once again prove she is the queen.

Natalie Silva continued her undeniable journey for a flyweight title shot with her seventh straight UFC victory against the former UFC flyweight champion Alexa Grasso. She kept Grasso at bay with her excellent movement and kicking from all angles, then when Grasso got close, she showed good hand speed and power for a unanimous points victory.

Mark-Andre Barriault announced himself to the UFC fans with an explosive first-round knockout of Brazilian Andre Silva. Although Silva had lost his last four and six of his previous seven, he had only been stopped in two, and only one was a KO. However, he ran into a determined Barriault who backed him to the cage and laid him out with two elbows.
