Once again the Premier League seems to rise to unprecedented heights when it comes to spending money, and once again they have smashed the transfer record, spending £3.19b on transfers this summer.
This was a huge increase on the previous record set in 2023, which was £2.46b. However, this year Premier League teams set another record, in selling players and recouping £1.36b.
Below are my notable signing this summer for each team.
ARSENAL – NET SPEND £251.4m
The Gunners will be very happy with their window, bringing in the striker they so dearly needed in Gyokeres (£63.5). Along with some top-quality in Eze (£57.5m) and Zubimendi (£51m).
Added to some great squad additions, with Madueke (£52m) and Mosquera (£13m), who already looks a bargain, and the very experienced Norgaard (£15m).
LIVERPOOL – NET SPEND £235m
The deadline day signing of Isak (£125m) for a British record signalled their intent. Especially, as Liverpool acquired the talented Wirtz (£116m) and exciting forward Ekitike (£79m).
Plus two full-backs in Frimpong (£29.5m) and Kerkez (£40m), also a young, talented defender in Leoni (£26m). Spending a massive £442, but they recouped £207m.
MANCHESTER UTD – NET SPEND £166.9m
In an attempt to erase the horrors of last season, Man Utd totally revamped their forward line with the signing of Cunha (£62.5m), Mbeumo (£71m) and Sesko (£73.7m), adding to the young goalkeeper Lammens, who will look to make an instant impact.
TOTTENHAM – NET SPEND £137.8m
After winning a first trophy in 17 years, then changing their manager, changes on the pitch were inevitable.
They will be happy with the exciting acquisitions of Kudus (£55m) and Xavi Simmons (£51m), and will hope the shrewd loan signings of Paulinha and Kolo Muani can become permanent, as they did with Danso (£20.9m) and Tel (£29.9m).
EVERTON – NET SPEND £116m
David Moyes showed promise after being appointed in January and will want to make an impact in the new stadium.
He will be happy with the exciting loan signing of Grealish, along with Dibling (£42m) and Dewsbury-Hall (£29m), with something to prove. Added to the interesting signings of Alcaraz (£12m), Barry (£27m) and Aznou (£10m).
SUNDERLAND – NET SPEND £113.4m
Newly promoted Sunderland have left no stone unturned in their quest to stay in the Premier League.
They have brought in no less than 15 players. The standouts are Xhaka (£17.3m) and Adingra (£20.5m) for Premier League experience. Young quality in Diarra (£30m), with Le Fee (£20m), Brobbey (£21.3m) and Traore (£2.5m) for flair.
NEWCASTLE – NET SPEND – £95.6m
Despite a very high-profile departure, Newcastle spent well in an attempt to move on.
The strike duo of Wissa (£55m) and Woltemade |(£69m) looks promising, along with the league-proven and exciting prospects of Elanga (£55m) and J.Ramsey (£43m), along with some defensive stability with Thiaw (£34.3m).
NOTTINGHAM FOREST – NET SPEND £95.4m
Despite the uncertainty, Forest were active in the window with 13 signings. The acquisitions of Hutchinson (£37.5m), McAtee (£30m) and Ndoye (£34m) look shrewd, along with the loan signing of Douglas Luiz.
They also have some interesting signings in Bakwa (£34.7m), Kalimuendo (£25m), Savona (£11.25m) and Zinchenko on loan.
LEEDS UNITED – NET SPEND £91.5m
The Championship winners will be desperate to make an impact back in the Premier League.
They hope the experience of Longstaff (£12m) and the free signing of Calvert-Lewin can bring something, along with the interesting signings of Stach (£17.4m), Justin (£10m), Okafor (£18m), Bijol (£15m), Perri (£15.6m), and Gudmundsson (£10m).
MANCHESTER CITY – NET SPEND £80.2m
Surprisingly, City were modest if you look at their net spend and could be going through somewhat of a transition.
They bought two goalkeepers with the bargain Donnarumma (£26m) and young prospect Trafford (£31m). Along with further talent in Cherki (£34m), league-proven Ait Nouri (£36m) and a top star in Reijnders (£46.3m).
WEST HAM UNITED – NET SPEND £69.7m
Following their European success in 2023, West Ham struggled to kick on. They are hoping this summer window will change things with the likes of Todibo (£35m) and Fernandes (£42m) for decent money.
Also, Diouf (£19m), Magassa (£17.3m) and Hermansen (£18m), with two decent free signings in C.Wilson and Walker-Peters.
BURNLEY – NET SPEND £57.8m
Burnley are most people’s favourites to finish bottom and have splashed out this summer to combat this.
Bringing experience in Walker (£5m) and Debravka (undisclosed). Potential quality in Anthony (£8m), Edwards (£8.5m), Broja (£20m), and possible quality but unknowns in Uguchukwu (£23m), Weiss (£4.2m) and Tchaouna (£12m).
FULHAM – NET SPEND £18.93m
The West Londoners had a low-key summer window with just four players through the door.
It will be interesting to see how the Brazilian Kevin (£34.6m) will perform in the team. In addition to Chukwueze and Kusu-Asare, who are on loan and Lecomte (undisclosed).
CHELSEA – NET SPEND £9.5m
Despite controversies, Chelsea impressed this summer window, spending £276.1m but recouping £266.6m. On Pedro (£60m), who has already made an impact, likewise the teenage star Estevao (£29m).
Along with Gittens (£51.5m), Delap (£30m) and surprisingly Garnacho (£40m), with young, impressive defender Hato (£38.5m).
ASTON VILLA – NET SPEND -£8m
After some excellent business this summer, Villa made a profit. It will be interesting to see how loan signings Sancho and Elliot fare this season.
From the players who should go straight into the squad, they brought in Guessand (£28m) and Lindelof on a free.
WOLVES – NET SPEND – £14.7m
Wolves offloaded 13 players this summer, so it comes as no surprise they made a profit this window. In terms of incomings, Arias (£15m), Lopez (£21.3m) and Arokodare (£23.4m) should all go straight into the team. With Larsen (£23m) making his loan move permanent.
CRYSTAL PALACE – NET SPEND -£23m
Palace were at the centre of a transfer storm this window, and although they kept Guehi, they still made a profit.
It will be interesting to see the progress of Pino (£26m), who should go straight into the team. Also, Uche (£17.3m) and Sosa (£3m).
BRENTFORD – NET SPEND -£58m
After losing some of their most important players this summer, including the manager, Brentford will need their incomings to hit the ground running.
Especially the goalkeeper Kelleher (£18m), along with the experienced Henderson, on a free, Ouattara (£42m), also, Kayode (£14m), Milambo (£18.8), and Nelson on loan from Arsenal.
BOURNEMOUTH – NET SPEND -£63.3m
Although the fans may not be happy with players departing, the board will be with their business, recouping almost £197.3 million.
However, Bournemouth will be happy with Truffert (£14,4m), who already looks good and Diakite (£35m). Potential quality in Doak (£25m), Adli (£25m) and Jimenez on loan, with Petrovic (£25m), who has experience.
BRIGHTON – NET SPEND -£63.8m
Brighton doing good business comes as no surprise, as they seem to make a habit of it. They offloaded 26 players permanently or on loan.
Incomings consisted of De Cuyper (£17.3m) and Watson (£10m), who look good signings, as well as Kostoulas (£31.4m), Coppola (£9m) and Bascagli on a free.
