TEAM: MAN UTD
This was a close one but finally Man Utd wins back to back games under Ruben Amorim and what a way to do it, at the home of their fiercest rivals.
After getting a very early lead, a combination of riding their luck and good defending allowed them to hold out. But when Liverpool got the equaliser, you were only expecting one winner. But United responded with a late sucker punch for a memorable away win.
Well done to Chelsea. Aston Villa. Brentford. Burnley. Man City. Sunderland and Brighton.
GOALKEEPER: SENNE LAMMENS (Man Utd)
The young Belgian keeper was only playing his second game for United and it’s fair to say he has already won the hearts of the United faithful with a memorable away win.
When called upon he performed and made some good saves to keep Liverpool out. Although he did have to ride his luck, the most important thing was he looked composed and assured and the kind of keeper United have been crying out for in years.
Shout out to Fulham’s Leno. Burnley’s Dubravka and Sunderland’s Roefs.
DEFENDER: HARRY MAGUIRE (Man Utd)
He has had more than his fair share of stick from all angles and had to show some real mental fortitude to continue.
At Anfield, admittedly he had to lean on a bit of luck, but equally he performed very well putting his body on the line. Then, unexpectedly, won the game with a lovely header.
Well done to his teammate De Ligt. Chelsea duo Acheampong and Cucurella. Sunderland duo Mukiele & Ballard. Man City duo Nunes & O’Reilly.
Burnley duo Walker & Esteve. Brighton’s Van Hecke. Liverpool’s Konate. Arsenal duo Gabriel and Calafiori. Vlla’s Cash.
MIDFIELDER: PEDRO NETO (Chelsea)
Although there weren’t many to choose from this week, it was a close run thing, mainly between teammates. However, although they got away with it in the first half, when it was time to take over he played a pivotal role.
He assisted the opening goal with a lovely cross from the left. Then practically sealed the win when he scored from a free kick, just outside the box that the keeper couldn’t hold.
Shout out to his teammate James. Villa duo Rogers and Buendia. Man Utd’s Amad. Man City’s Savinho. Brentfrod trio Henderson, Damsgaard and Jensen.
Bournemouth duo Tavernier and Christie. Palace duo Munoz and Mitchell.Spurs’s Bentancur. Burnley’s Ugochukwu. Brighton duo Rutter & Ayari.
FORWARD: JEAN-PHILIPPE MATETA (Crystal Palace)
Destined to have a a good week after his publicised but up with a former team mate. But even he wouldn’t have expected this good.
After Bournemouth raced into a first half lead, his two second half goals, showing movement and predatory instincts pulled palace level. When Bournemouth got a third, it was left to him to keep his cool in stoppage time to secure his hat-trick from the spot (90+7).
Well done to Man City’s Haaland. Bournemouth’s. Kroupi. Brighton’s Wellbeck. Newcastle’s Woltemade.
Arsenal duo Trossard & Saka. Burnley’s Tchaouna. Brentford’s Thiago and Man Utd’s Mbeumo.
MANAGER: RUBEN AMORIM (Man Utd)
I think this was probably the hardest decision this week with several managers deserving this but in the end I went with the Man Utd man.
He targeted Liverpool’s weakness in the full back area to good effect, getting the early goal then, after Liverpool equalised, of all people, the much maligned Maguire came up to nod home the winner.
Shout out to Chelsea’s Maresca. Villa’s Emery and Brentford’s Andrews.
UNSUNG HERO: JOSH ACHEAMPONG (Chelsea)
He was introduced at the back end of last season has started the season well in the few games he has played.
Forced into the team because of injury, they had to ride their luck as Forest missed chanced after chance. But just after the break, he popped up from nowhere to open the scoring and changed the game as Chelsea ran out comfortable winners.
Well done to Brighton’s Wellbeck. Sunderland’s Mukiele. Burnley’s Walker. Man City’s O’Reilly. Bournemouth’s Kroupi and Brentford’s Henderson.
GAME: CRYSTAL PALACE 3-3 BOURNEMOUTH
Bournemouth raced into a shock early first half lead with two goals from their teenager Kroupi, unmarked on the goal line (7) then with an instinctive finish (38).
However, in the second half Palace pulled level with two goals from their striker Mateta, (64) and (69), both times touching in from a few yards.
Palace then thought they won it when Christie finished with a minute to go (89). However, Bournemouth got a stoppage time penalty and Mateta sealed his hat-trick from the spot (90+7). But he did miss a chance for a fourth at the death.
GOAL: LOUM TCHAOUNA (Burnley) vs Leeds Utd
Following good passage of play in midfield and exchange of passes between Cullen and Florentino. He then fed the ball to Tchaouna, with his back to goal midway in the Leeds half.
He then turned, pushed the ball forward with one touch and as nobody challenged him, from 25 yards out. Hit an absolute rocket of an effort that flew from right to left and nestled in the far top corner.
There were also good goals from Villa duo Rogers and Buendia, also Newcastle’s Woltemade.
FOOL: ARNE SLOT (Liverpool)
I could give this to Postecoglou for getting sacked after no win in his eight games. However, the Liverpool manager got away with it last few weeks.
So he more than deserves this for three league defeats in a row. Some of his team selections have been questionable and he is now being called into question if he really was lucky and did win the league with Klopp’s team. FOOL!
