TEAM: MANCHESTER CITY
Although there were some excellent performances this week, going to Palace and getting a three-goal victory plus a clean sheet is nothing to scoff at.
Many were calling this a tricky away game for City, but they made a mockery of that with the most comfortable and routine away win you would see.
Well done to Notts Forest. Aston Villa. Chelsea. Liverpool. Sunderland. Fulham. Man Utd and Arsenal.
GOALKEEPER: BERND LENO (Fulham)
This was a tough decision, as there weren’t many good performances this week. It was also difficult to separate the few good ones.
After thinking long and hard, I went with the Fulham man who conceded two, but faced the most shots of any goalkeeper and made the most saves, which helped his team earn three points.
Well done to Man City’s Donnarumma. Sunderland’s Roefs and Chelsea’s Sanchez.
DEFENDER: MALO GUSTO (Chelsea)
Several impressed me this weekend, but none more than the Chelsea full-back, who was playing in an unusual inverted position.
It was from that position that he played an excellent through ball to create the first. Then, from that position again, it was his run and finish that got the second to seal the game in the first half.
Well done also to his teammates Chalobah and Fofana. Sunderland duo Ballard & Alderete. Forest duo Milenkovic & Williams. Man City duo Dias & Nunez. Fulham’s Bassy
Liverpool duo Gomez & Konate. Wolves’ Toti. Leeds’ Struijk. Newcastle’s Thiaw. Burnley’s Sonne. Brentford trio Van de Berg, Collins and Kayode.
MIDFIELDER: MORGAN ROGERS (Aston Villa)
In a World Cup season, England seems to have an embarrassment of riches in the midfield area and the Villa man could be that rare gem.
He has been flirting with top performances all season, and this one was right out of the top draw with two goals, to first equalise, then a wonderful strike to win the game at West Ham.
Shout out to his teammate Tielemans. Forest duo Hudson-Odoi and Sangare. Man City duo Foden & Cherki. Man Utd’s Fernandes. Sunderland’s Xhaka. Brentford’s Henderson.
Fulham trio Wilson, Chukwueze and Smith Rowe. Bournemouth duo Tavernier & Semenyo. Liverpool duo Gravenberch and Wirtz. Burnley’s Ugochukwu, also, West Ham’s Fernandes.
FORWARD: HUGO EKITIKE (Liverpool)
Within all the chaos surrounding Salah and Isak this season, he is one level-headed striker at the club who has got his head down and done his job.
Following two goals in the league at Leeds last season, he bagged another brace, becoming the youngest player to do so since Owen, as he steered Liverpool to victory.
Well done to Man City’s Haaland. Leeds’ Calvert-Lewin. Wolves’ Arokodare. West Ham’s Bowen. Arsenal’s Saka. Man Utd’s Cunha, Bournemouth duo Evanilson and Kroupi.
MANAGER: SEAN DYCHE (Notts Forest)
When he took over at Forest, they were languishing in the bottom three, a shadow of their former selves, shipping goals and losing games.
Some six weeks later. In all competitions, they have seven wins, three defeats and two draws. Their comfortable victory against Spurs this week just typifies their newfound confidence under Dyche.
Shout out also to Man City’s Guardiola. Sunderland’s Le Bris and Villa’s Emery.
UNSUNG HERO: HARRY WILSON (Fulham)
You could say he is currently playing the best football of his career. He is starting more games and certainly affecting more games, showing his quality.
This week, it was a goal and an assist to earn three away points. To add to his goal of the season contender last week
Well done to Forest’s Sangare. Brentford’s Henderson. Sunderland’s Xhaka and Leeds’s Calvert-Lewin.
GAME: MAN UTD 4-4 BOURNEMOUTH
In the last game of the Premier League week, we were treated to an eight-goal thriller. Amad gave United an early lead (15), which was cancelled out by Semenyo (30). However, Casemiro restored the lead on the stroke of half-time (45+4).
Bournemouth came out on fire in the second half with goals from Evanilson (46) and a Lovely free kick from Tavernier (52). However, Fernandes scored the goal of the day with a lovely free kick to level the scores (77).
Two minutes later, Man Utd thought they won it through Cunha (79). But Bournemouth pulled level through sub Kroupi (84) to make it 4-4.
GOAL: IBRAHIM SANGARE (Notts Forest) vs Tottenham
Hudson-Odoi picked up the ball on the left and drove at the Spurs defenders. He then cut inside, jinxed past one, then touched the ball past another to roll it across the box.
Running onto the ball, just outside the dee, Sangare unleashed a superb, first-time effort, cutting across the ball, to make it rocket away from the keeper and slam in off the inside of the post.
There were also good goals from his teammate Hudson-Odoi. Villa’s Rogers and Man Utd’s Fernandes.
FOOL: NICK WOLTEMADE (Newcastle)
In the first Tyne-Wear derby in almost a decade, sadly, it will be remembered for the own goal that settled the game from a player who was brought in to score at the other end.
The Newcastle striker was the unlucky recipient of an own goal he would have been proud to score at the other end. However, this game will forever be remembered for his own goal that won it for Sunderland. FOOL!
