WEEKLY AWARDS: January 17th-19th 2026

TEAM: MANCHESTER UNITED

Despite the destruction of their city rivals in the derby, it was a close-run thing. However, United brushed aside Pep’s team, reducing them to just one shot on goal.

It was easily the best United have played in a long time. Scoring two, conceding none and having three goals disallowed for offside suggests the scoreline even flattered City.

Well done to Everton. West Ham. Leeds. Chelsea and Sunderland.

GOALKEEPER: MARTIN DUBRAVKA (Burnley)

Even with an underperforming Liverpool, going to Anfield, you know that your keeper will have to have a good game for you to get something.

That’s what happened. He faced more shots than any other keeper over the weekend and conceded just the one. Thisallowed his team to get a late equaliser and earn a valuable away point.

Shout out to Everton’s Pickford. Forest’s Sels. Chelsea’s Sanchez and Bournemouth’s Petrovic.

DEFENDER: JAKE O’BRIEN (Everton)

Although the whole back line played their part in an impressive away win at Villa to snap their long winning run at home, he was the pick of the bunch.

A versatile defender who usually plays at full back, filling in at centre back, he didn’t put a foot wrong and remained composed and solid and was 100% for all duels, in the air and on the ground.

Well done to his teammates, Tarkowski and Patterson. Burnley’s Humphreys. Man Utd duo Martinez and Shaw. Chelsea duo James and Tosin. Forest’s Murillo. Wolves’ Mosquera. Leeds’ Justin. Spurs’ Romero. Brighton’s Van Hecke.

Arsenal duo Gabriel & White. Newcastle duo Thiaw & Hall. West Ham foursome Wan-Bissaka, Todibo, Mavropanos & Scarles. Bournemouth’s Truffert. Sunderland duo Mukiele & Ballard. Also,

MIDFIELDER: BRUNO FERNANDES (Man Utd)

He put in a real captain’s performance in the derby and bossed the midfield with a performance full of energy and quality.

He was unlucky to have a first-half goal disallowed. However, he continued to create chances and assisted the opening goal and should have had another assist in the game.

Shout out to his teammates Dorgu & Mainoo. West Ham trio Summerville, Fernandes & Soucek. Everton’s Garner. Liverpool’s Wirtz. Sunderland’s Le Fee. Brighton’s Kostoulas.

Leeds’s Ampadu. Palace’s Pino. Chelsea trio Palmer, Enzo & Garnacho. Burnley’s Edwards.  Forest’s Anderson. Arsenal’s Rice. Bournemouth’s Tavernier.

FORWARD: THIERNO BARRY (Everton)

Though it was more of a team effort, he was the one who scored the winner with a superb finish over the keeper.

After a difficult start to the season with a new club in a different country, he is finally finding his feet and showing his quality, temperament and belief. He now has three goals in his last five games.

Well done to West Ham’s Wilson. Sunderland’s Brobbey. Man Utd’s Mbeumo. Chelsea’s Joao Pedro. Leeds’ Nmecha.

MANAGER: MICHAEL CARRICK (Man Utd

It was a really difficult call to make as David Moyes needed recognition for his superb away win to snap Villa’s long unbeaten run at home.

However, although it is Man Utd, in just a few days in charge, the change and contrast in the Man Utd team is instant and miraculous. They were better than City in all areas, and to say the scoreline flattered City tells you all you need to know.

Shout out to Everton’s Moyes and West Ham’s Espírito Santo.

UNSUNG HERO: JAMES GARNER (Everton)

This award was created for this exact situation. The Everton midfielder has been deployed in several positions this season to good effect.

This week, he sat just in front of the back four and was solid and fearless, but he was also industrious going forward and produced a man-of-the-match performance.

Well done to his teammates, Patterson & Barry. Chelsea’s Sanchez. Brighton’s Kostoulas. Man Utd’s Dorgu and West Ham’s Wilson.

GAME: TOTTENHAM 1-2 WEST HAM

Summerville opened the scoring in the first half when he ran down the left, cut inside two, and his low shot deflected inside the near post (15)

Romero equalised in the second half with a powerful header from Porro’s cross from deep (64). As the game was heading for a draw, Bowen swung in a corner, and Wilson tapped in on the rebound as the keeper flapped to win it in stoppage time (90+3).

GOAL: CHARALAMPOS KOSTOULAS (Brighton) vs Bournemouth

Mitoma on the left touchline played a ball back to Boscagi to launch a ball into the box. Van Hecke rose high, near the penalty spot and parallel to the back post, to nod it back across.

The ball bounced off the floor, then off Kostoulas’ chest into the air, a few yards past the penalty spot. With his back to goal, he executed a picture-perfect overhead kick to leave the keeper stranded for a spectacular stoppage-time equaliser.

FOOL: THOMAS FRANK (Tottenham)

Time seems to be ticking for the Spurs manager, who has only been in the job for less than six months.

However, with just 6 wins from his 22 league games, it’s not looking good. This home defeat to West Ham, who are in the bottom three, makes it no wins in his last four and one win in seven games, with Spurs sitting in 14th place. FOOL!
