UFC 325 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, was the UFC’s eighth visit to Australia and the first since UFC 312, which took place almost a year to the day in February 2025.
At the event, there were four Road to UFC Season 4 finals. However, the flyweight final was cancelled after one of the fighters missed weight on his second attempt, after he cheated on his first attempt by holding onto a privacy curtain.
There were 13 fights on the card. Seven were stoppages, including four TKOs. Six went the distance, including one split decision and one majority decision.
TOP PERFORMER: MAURICIO RUFFY
Ruffy came into this fight on the back of a devastating second-round submission defeat to Benoît Saint Denis in Paris. That stopped his momentum after his highlight reel knockout of King Green, the fight before.
That defeat also snapped his three-fight UFC winning streak after earning a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2023. His opponent, Rafael Fiziev, was equally under pressure, hoping for a winning run after two impressive fight of the night points defeats to Justin Gaethje.
But Ruffy came out as a man possessed, and following a fairly even first round, he stepped on the gas in the second and walked Fiziev down with a concerted attack of straight punches to bewilder and overwhelm Fiziev for an impressive stoppage.
TOP PERFORMER 2: BENOIT SAINT DENIS
The God of War is certainly living up to his fearsome reputation and is now on a four-fight winning streak in the UFC.
Dan Hooker presented another tough assignment, although coming off a loss, he had won his previous three and had that vital experience that seemed to be the factor in Saint Denis, with two defeats in his UFC career.
However, Saint Denis proved to be too aggressive, too strong and too determined. He softened him up with some heavy shots, then eventually took him down and rained in blows from full mount to the fight in the second round.
TOP PERFORMER 3: ALEXANDER VOLKANOVSKI
Although it wasn’t exactly a fight to right home about, it was a combination of Diego Lopes’ shortcomings and Volkanovski’s brilliance that created this outcome.
After their first fight in April 2025, where Volkanovski completely nullified Lopes. Diego went away and impressively defeated Jean Silva to earn another shot at Volkanovski’s title.
While we all were expecting something different, Volkanovski cemented his legendary featherweight status by again nullifying Lopez. He boxed smart, avoided takedowns, kept Lopez guessing and did damage where necessary for a comfortable defence of his title.
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Quillan Salkilld had to brush off the disappointment of Road to UFC Season 2 winner Rongzhu getting injured, to get up for a new opponent in Jamie Mullarkey.
Although Mullarky had lost three of his last five, Salkilld looked impressive and took all his frustrations out on him with a dominant performance to choke him unconscious in the first round and earn a performance of the night bonus.
