UFC327 MADNESS IN MIAMI

UFC327 was the fifth time the UFC has been to Miami, the last was a year ago in April 2025, making April a Miami tradition for the UFC.

A week prior to the event, the flyweight title fight was cancelled when champion Joshua Van sustained a minor injury. There were also three other fights cancelled and rescheduled.

There were 12 fights on the card. Six were stoppages, including three submissions. Five fights went the distance, including one split decision and there was one draw.

TOP PERFORMER: CARLOS ULBERG

In one of the most chaotic, surprising and explosive title fights in recent history, which lasted just under four minutes, Ulberg became the new UFC light heavyweight champion in the most dramatic fashion, with a first round knockout of Jiri Prochakza.

Early in the round Ulberg ruptured his ACL, a debilitating, near career threatening injury for most, however, although Ulberg was visibly having trouble to even stand, somehow, he managed to power through the next few minutes of the fight.

Then, miraculously, as Prochakza dropped his guard, seemingly thinking what everyone else was, that it was only a matter of time. Ulberg pulled off a herculean effort to deliver a devastating left hook to drop Jiri, then followed it up with shots on the ground to make history in a fight nobody will ever forget.

TOP PERFORMER 2: JOSH HOKIT

Hokit came into this fight after earning a contract on Dana White’s contender show with a knockout, then two back to back first round knockouts in his two UFC fights.

Not many were giving Hokit a chance against the elite fighter Curtis Blaydes. Especially as Hokit did a plethora of antics to get under his skin in the build up, which deceived us all, as Hokit showed his toughness, desire, heart but also,  just how crazy he is in the fight.

Hokit pushed the fight from the first bell and never stopped throwing throughout, Blaydes had no option but to trade with him, which gave us one of the best fights the UFC has ever seen, as the two went toe to toe to almost a standing exhaustion. When it was all said and done, Hokit came out the victor, a deserved reward for his never say die attitude.

TOP PERFORMER 3: CUB SWANSON

In his final fight in the UFC after a storybook 15 year UFC career of 26 fights, added to a four year WEC run of eight fights and four fight to the night awards. Cub Swanson ended it it typical fairytale fashion.

It was no more than he deserved after giving the public years of excitement and great fights. Against a game and plucky fighter in Nate Landwehr, where everyone was expecting a back and forth war. Cub had other ideas though.

He started the fight on the front foot, overwhelming Landwehr with punches. You could see nothing was going to stop him from making it a good end. He then ended the fight with a massive overhand right that sent Landwehr head first to the canvas, forcing the ref to stop the fight, even thought Landwehr tried to get up but it was a correct call.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Tatiana Suarez continued her quest for another title shot with a second victory since her title fight loss in February 2025.

It was an impressive submission win after a rocky first round, where she weathered the storm and in the second, did what she did best, composed herself, showed superior wresting and finished Godínez with a rare naked choke.

Paulo Costa light up the co-main event with an explosive head kick knockout in the third round of the previously unbeaten Azamat Murzakanov, who had 12 knockouts in his 16 fights.

In the first two rounds it was a brutal, war of attrition where both fighters exchanged heavy blows before Costa settled the affair with an unexpected head kick.

Vincent Luque had to contend with a late opponent change to face a former middleweight title contender and TUF17 winner Kevin Gastelum.

However, Luque made light work of Gastelum who probably did not have enough time to prepare by dropping him with a slick right upper cut, then submitting him with a lovely anaconda choke.
