UFC330 ILLIN IN PHILLY

UFC330 was the first event in Philadelphia since March 2019 and just the fourth visit in history for the UFC.

There were several fight changes to the card, but thankfully none to the main and co-main event, which saw two title fights on the same card for only the second time this year.

Of the 12 fights on the card. 8 ended in stoppages, including 3 different submissions. With 4 fights going the distance, including the two title fights.

TOP PERFORMANCE: JALIN TURNER

Turner recently returned to the UFC after a record of 1 win and 4 losses between March 2023 and March 2025. He was on the verge of quitting before being persuaded to stay and give it another shot. Since then, he found God and a new lease of life.

He came back in December 2025 against veteran knockout artist Edson Barbosa in a potentially dangerous fight but stopped him in the first round. Still, he needed the continuity of a second fight to see where he was at.

Against Kauê Fernandes, he backed it up with a devastating 39-second knockout. He took advantage of a missed spinning back fist to deliver a brutal left upper cut, dropping his opponent, then finished the fight with several clubbing left and right hooks.

TOP PERFORMANCE 2: ISLAM MAKHACHEV

The welterweight champion defended the title he won in November 2025, after holding the lightweight title for 15 months and making four defences. In the two-weight champion’s first defence, it was surprisingly straightforward against Ian Machado Garry.

The Irishman came into the fight on the back of 10 wins and 1 defeat in his four-year UFC career, setting him up for a title fight against Makhachev. Being the bigger man, this looked a real risky fight for Islam, and of course it continued the Dagestan/Irish feud.

However, after Makhachev started well and dropped Garry in the second round with a lovely head kick, it was less than routine with Garry winning the third and starting well in the fourth. But Makhachev responded to shut down Garry with his superb wrestling and improved striking for a record 17th straight victory.

TOP PERFORMANCE 3: DUSTIN STOLTZFUS

Coming into the fight on the back of three defeats in his last four, Dustin Stoltzfus was up against a younger and bigger opponent in Mansur Abdul-Malik.

Although Abdul-Malik had lost his last fight, Dustin was the underdog and possibly had his UFC career on the line. After an even first round, Stoltzfus ended it with a superb, dominant takedown and submission attempt.

In the second, he was clearly losing the round and had to weather heavy shots on the feet and on the ground. But then, landing two hard rights to take the fight to the ground. After a failed guillotine attempt, he locked in a tight choke, forcing Mansur to tap for an upset victory.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Charles Johnson in his fourth fight this year as he had to contend with a late opponent change, an eye poke, an illegal knee and getting dropped in the second round. He rallied and impressively beat Brazilian rising star Eduardo Henrique, making his UFC debut, with only the fifth twister submission victory in UFC history.

Donte Johnson lit up the Philadelphia crowd to extend his unbeaten record with an explosive first-round knockout of Eric McConico Jr. It took him just over 90 seconds to unleash a devastating straight left hand that split the guard and sent his opponent crashing to the canvas, concussed, surprised and out for a superb victory.
