TEAM: TOTTENHAM
With only their second win against Chelsea in 30 years, nobody expected this result, even with Chelsea’s leading scorer injured.
However, Spurs were good for their win as the dominated the West Londoners in front a shocked home fans. They deservedly got their rewards with a two goal away win, which somewhat flattered Chelsea.
Well done to Aston Villa. Bournemouth. Fulham. Newcastle. Liverpool. Arsenal.
GOALKEEPER: ZION SUZUKI (Aston Villa)
The new Villa keeper has impressed since he was signed and this was one of his best performances, though he was beaten once, he faced the most shots of any keeper this weekend.,
But the stars of Man City were only able to beat him once, as he was equal to everything else they threw at him, which allowed his team to secure another memorable victory.
Shout out to Newcastle’s Hornicek. Hull’s Tzolaskis. Bournemouth’s Petrovic. Tottenham’s Kinsky. Leeds’s Trafford. Sunderland’s Roefs and Arsenal’s Raya.
DEFENDER: GABRIEL (Arsenal)
Although there were several very good defender performances this week, this was more for the consistency, along with this week’s excellent display against Everton.
Not only was he the usual defensively solid, reliable and stable to snuff out anything Everton tried. But just his team had a bit of nerves with a one goal lead, he popped up to score the second and seal the game.
Well done to his teammate Konsa. Spurs foursome, Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Gray and Robertson. Liverpool duo Araujo and Jacquet. Villa duo Cash and Lindelof.
Bournemouth trio Silva, Hill and Truffert. Newcastle duo Hall and Burn. Fulham duo Bassey and Affengruber. Hull’s Ajayi. Sunderland’s O’Nien and Leeds duo Muharemovic and Bijol.
MIDFIELDER: MATEUS FERNANDES (Tottenham)
It was no coincidence that his best performance in a Spurs shirt coincided with their Spurs’ best performance of the season. The midfield dynamic of Tonali, Maddison and Fernandes worked wonders with Fernandes excelling.
He finished the game first for touches, final third touches, accurate passes, crosses and tackles. It was an all-around, all-action dominant performance, with help from his counterparts, but he certainly led the way.
Shout out to his teammates Tonali and Tel. Villa duo McGinn and Manzambi. Bournemouth trio Rayan, Tavernier and Kluivert. Arsenal duo Rice and Odegaard.
Liverpool duo Wirtz and Mac Allister. Fulham’s Bobb. Ipswich’s Enciso. Newcastle duo Barnes and Nico. Hull’s Belloumi and Man City’s Ndiaye.
FORWARD: NICOLAS JACKSON (Aston Villa)
A goal in each half was enough to sink Man City, making it four league goals for the season already to the surprise of many.
After his Chelsea stint, some may have been surprised at the composed way he took his first goal. He was a menace all game and that gave him the confidence to hit one from outside the box that slipped under Donnarumma for the winner.
Well done to his teammate Manzambi. Liverpool’s Isak. Bournemouth’s Evanilson. Ipswich’s Enciso. Man City’s Haaland. Newcastle’s Osula and Hull’s McBurnie.
MANAGER: ROBERTO DE ZERBI (Tottenham)
Being only the second Spurs manager in the last 30 years to record a win against Chelsea cannot be ignored. It was not only the result but the manor of their victory that stuck out.
Tottenham went to Chelsea and played possession football, they dominated the ball and should have taken the lead in the first half. In the end his team’s pressure told with a keeper mistake and superb finish to that got them what they truly deserved.
Shout out to Bournemouth’s Rose. Villa’s Emery. Liverpool’s Iraola. Newcastle’s Jaissie. Fulham’s Arbeloa and Arsenal’s Arteta.
UNSUNG HERO: RONALD ARAUJO (Liverpool)
There were several reservations and rumours when Liverpool signed him, even as a loanee. However, although it’s still early days, he has dispelled any fears and has already become a cult hero.
He has endeared himself to the fans with his no-nonsense, aggressive, yet reliable defending that Liverpool have been lacking. It’s no coincidence with his contributions Liverpool have already recorded four clean sheets from eight league games this season.
Well done to Forest’s Williams. Villa’s McGinn. Bournemouth duo Tavernier, Hill and Truffert. Spurs’s duo Tonali and Tel. Also, Fulham’s King.
GAME: ASTON VILLA 2-1 MAN CITY
Villa were confident due to good recent winning record against Man City at Villa park and started early when McGinn took advantage of a bad touch by Guehi, fed Jackson, who cut inside Khusanov and rifled into the roof of the net (6).
Ndiaye had too good chances and hit the post with the second. But in the second half City equalised when Ndiaye crossed for Haaland to head home (52). However, not long after, sub Mbaye ran onto Jacksons pass down the right, then crossed for Jackson to run onto and his first time effort slipped under Donnarumma (60).
GOAL: EVANILSON (Bournemouth) vs Man Utd
Cook picked up the ball in the middle of this own half and played an inviting ball down the inside right channel for Evanilson to run onto.
As he ran towards the ball, Lammens came rushing out, Evnailson neatly nipped the ball past him and as the veered to the right slightly, some 35 yards from goal. He expertly wrapped his foot around the ball and hit a superb, first time effort that sailed into an empty net,
There were also good goals from Tottenham’s Tel and Fulham’s Bobb.
FOOL: MAN UTD
Cole Palmer was very lucky not to be here but you can’t ignore the debacle that is Man Utd currently. There is dissension everywhere you look in the club..
Players calling out coaching staff, fans calling out owners, threats of the sack and the team literally getting battered everywhere they go. Their latest 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth made it no win in their last eight games in all competitions. FOOL!
