TEAM: WOLVES
Although three teams won both games this week, nobody expected one of those teams to be Wolves, especially against teams in the top six, in Villa and Liverpool.
Despite still being at the bottom, they have done what many teams have not this season by winning two games in a week to crack open a faint hope of Premier League survival.
Well done to Arsenal and Everton.
GOALKEEPER: JOSE SA (Wolves)
The Wolves captain more than played his part in this team, clocking six points this week against two teams fighting for a Champions League place.
Over the two games, he faced twelve shots on his goal and only conceded one, late in the second game. Until that time, he was solid and assured to help his team to six valuable and unlikely points.
Shout out to Arsenal’s Raya. Bournemouth’s Petrovic. Newcastle’s Ramsdale and Sunderland’s Ellborg.
DEFENDER: GABRIEL (Arsenal)
In both games this week, he was the man of the match, showing leadership skills that helped his team gain six valuable points in the race for the title.
Not only is he rough, solid and dogged in defence, but he is the main threat from corners. He assisted the opening goal against Chelsea and led the team by example.
Well done to his teammates, Saliba and Timber. Everton duo Tarkowski and Brainthwaite. Wolves foursome Bueno, Mosquera, Kreci and Toti. Bournemouth duo Hill & Senesi.
Man City’s Ait Nouri. Palace duo Canvot & Lacroix. Sunderland duo Alderete & Ballard. West Ham’s Todibo and Chelsea’s Gusto.
MIDFIELDER: ANTOINE SEMENYO (Man City)
I am not sure there has been another January signing that has made a bigger or better impact than he has in the past six weeks.
Although playing alongside some top-quality players. However, he scored another two goals in the two games this week. The first was a winner, and the second was the opening goal, making it seven in just twelve games for the club.
Shout out to his teammates, Cherki & Rodri. Everton trio Ndiaye, Garner & Dewsbury-Hall. Wolves duo R.Gomez. J.Gomez and Andre. Palace’s Wharton. Brentford’s Damsgaard. Chelsea duo Palmer & Garnacho.
West Ham duo Soucek and Summerville. Forest duo Gibbs-White & Anderson. Brighton trio D.Gomez, Milner & Gross. Newcastle duo Murphy & Tonali. Fulham duo Wilson & Iwobi. Burnley duo Flemming and Anthony.
FORWARD: JOAO PEDRO (Chelsea)
Although he didn’t manage to score at Arsenal, it wasn’t for the want of trying. But he made up for it at Villa with a fantastic hat-trick, which put his team firmly back in the Champions League reckoning and took his league tally up to
Well done to Brentford duo Thiago & Schade. Man Utd’s Sesko. Palace duo Sarr & Larsen. Bournemouth’s Evanilsen. Arsenal’s Saka. Newcastle’s Osula. West Ham’s Castellanos. Liverpool’s Ekitike. Everton duo Beto & Barry. Spurs’ Richarlison.
MANAGER: ROB EDWARDS (Wolves)
Three managers won two games this week, and a few who had one very good result this week, but Edwards is showing his quality with a poor Wolves side.
In his last three games, he has taken seven points against Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool. This week, his substitution of Rodrigo Gomez proved to be pivotal as he scored in both games. A stoppage-time winner against Villa and the opening goal against Liverpool.
Shout out to Arsenal’s Arteta and Everton’s Moyes.
UNSUNG HERO: RODRIGO GOMEZ (Wolves)
He came off the bench in both games this week to notch goals. Off the bench in stoppage against Villa, and five minutes later, he sealed the game.
Against Liverpool, he was on a bit earlier in the 70th minute, and eight minutes later, he scored the opening goal.
Well done to his teammate, Andre. Forest’s Gibbs-White. Brentford’s Damsgaaard. Sunderland’s Alderete. Bournemouth’s aHill. West Ham’s Summerville and Palace duo Wharton & Sarr.
GAME1: BURNLEY 3-4 BRENTFORD
In one of the craziest games of the season. Brentford raced into an early three-goal lead through Damsgaard (9), Thiago (25) and Schade (34).
Kayode’s own goals (45+3) give Burnley a lifeline on the stroke of half-time. Then in the second half, goals from Anthony (47) and Flemming (60) levelled the game up.
Brentford then took the lead in stoppage time (90+3). Just when Brentford thought they had won it. Barnes (90+10) equalised, but VAR broke their hearts and ruled it out for a handball.
There was also a good game at Newcastle as they lost 3-2 against Everton.
GAME2: MAN CITY 2-2 NOTTS FOREST
Man City took an early lead through Semenyo, who volleyed in Cherki’s clip in the box (31). In the second half, Gibbs-White equalised with a superb back heel (56).
City then went on to take the lead shortly after when Rodri headed in Ait Nouri’s corner (62). However, it was 2-2 when Anderson played a one-two with Hudson-Odoi and curled a lovely effort inside the far post (76).
There was also a good game as 10-man Newcastle beat Man Utd 2-1 in stoppage time.
GOAL1: ALEX IWOBI (Fulham) vs Tottenham
Igor Jesus picked up the ball deep into the Brighton half on the left and strolled forward towards the goal.
As he arrived just outside the box, he played it square to Gibbs-White. His control made the ball bounce up slightly, which allowed him to hit a sweet volley, cutting across the ball to see it fly inside the far post.
There was also a good goal from Fulham’s Iwobi against Tottenham.
GOAL2: WILLIAM OSULA (Newcastle) vs Man Utd
With ten men, as the clock ticked into stoppage time. Trippier played a ball down the right for Osula to run onto down the line.
He then cut inside his marker, glided to the edge of the box, completed two step-overs to gain half a yard, then curled a lovely effort with his left for inside the far post.
FOOL: ASTON VILLA
Liverpool are very lucky not to be here after their horror show at Wolves. Also, Chelsea’s Neto and Spurs lost both of their games this week. However, Villa also lost at Wolves by two goals.
Then, instead of using that as motivation, they were thumped at home 4-1 by fellow Champions League chasing rivals Chelsea. After a largely positive season, heading into the last quarter, it is not the time to be having a poor run of form. FOOLS!
