Return of the Prince.

It is dubbed as “the night of champions” but in reality, it is so much more to the returning, former WBO and IBF Inter-continental light heavyweight champion Mark Prince.

The event in question will be under Dave Murphy’s Acourtier events at the world-famous York Hall, Bethnal Green on Friday October the 4th 2013.

At the age of 44 and after a 14 year hiatus, Mark is returning to the ring as cruiserweight instead of his usual light heavyweight. Mark will be fundraising at the bout for “The Kiyan Prince foundation” which was set up in memory of Mark’s son, who was tragically stabbed to death at the age of 15 outside his school gates in 2006.

Mark retired from boxing in 1999 with a very impressive record of 20 fights, 19 wins (15 ko’s) and only the one defeat. This came in a world title fight against Dariusz Michalczewski, a fighter who ended his career with 48 wins and 2 defeats.

After Mark retired, he dedicated himself to coaching and mentoring disadvantaged kids until his whole life changed with the tragic loss of his son.

Kiyan was a promising footballer. At the time of his death he was part of QPR’s youth set up and was earmarked to have a bright future in football and even potentially playing for England.

The Kiyan Prince Foundation “The KPF” is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to educating youngsters, in order to increase awareness on the consequences of gun and knife crime. This is carried out by delivering programmes and workshops to schools, prisons and other youth establishments. In 2008 Mark received the Children’s Champion Award from Gordon Brown.

This is not the only reason why I would urge you to go to this event. Apart from the good cause, the sentimental value and the touching emotional message.

There is a really good fight card on show and you are sure to get your monies worth.

The event will host a huge 14 bout fight card containing 7 champions, 4 title fights, including two world titles fights.

It will contain such names as Former European Welterweight Champion Michel ‘Phantom’ Trabant, challenging for the vacant GBC Super Middleweight title.

Co-headlining will be a mouth-watering women’s encounter. Germany’s Jennifer Retzke will take on Russian born Brit, and former Big Brother series 10 contestant Angel McKenzie, for the vacant Global Boxing Council (GBC) Welterweight title.

Other exciting names on the bill are Irish Light Middleweight Champion Lee Murtagh, former British, Commonwealth and WBU Lightweight World Champion Graham ‘The Duke’ Earl. Former English Super Featherweight Champion Ryan Barrett, London-based protégé of Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Marianne ‘Golden Girl’ Marston and stable mate and cousin of Tyson Fury, the exciting Light Middleweight Phil Fury.
