Bio: Matip is one of the best ball playing defenders I have ever seen. Can bring the ball out of defence with ease, plays long searching accurate balls or short one, two passes, it’s not a problem.
He is exceptional in the air and rarely gets beaten in a headed challenge. I class him as the ultimate “big game” player as he seems to usually save his best performances and goals for the really important games.
Couple tips: against the top top players, if you put him to man to man mark he can nullify the oppositions greatest threat. Also, if you put him to challenge the keeper on corners he can score double figures.
Was African footballer of the year once and runner-up twice. Also won Champions League best defender once and was named in the World Cup team of the tournament once.
