The incompetence of FIFA – It’s long overdue for a change!
As the World Cup draw is imminent and naturally, will be the topic on everyone’s lips for the foreseeable future. It will again put football’s world governing body FIFA in the spotlight.
Personally, I have been at a loss with many of the decisions they have made in regards to football, along with comments of 77-year-old Sepp Blatter.
I deliberately stated his age. I feel this is a huge factor behind a lot of his comments, which proves he is out of touch with the modern game and quite frankly, does not have a clue.
I am not sure how it all works in FIFA, in terms of if Mr Blatter has the last say in decisions. But regarding the next three World Cup hosts. Clearly there is an issue.
We all know visually, Brazil is a wonderful venue. Unfortunately, it didn’t take these recent deaths, due to a collapsed crane at the Corinthians stadium in São Paulo. To know Brazil’s infrastructure is not the best.
We now have a situation where several stadiums in Brazil will miss the initial December completion deadline. That deadline has now been extended to February.
Some may argue that FIFA are not to blame for Brazil’s construction failings. To a certain extent this is true, but this debacle could have been avoided if FIFA, in their infinite wisdom did not decide to just elect Brazil as the host nation, purely because they decided the World Cup should be held in South America.
What happened to the old method of several counties battling it out, providing state of the art presentations etc? If this was the case, due to the competition maybe Brazil would have been a bit more forthright in their organisation.
Regarding the hosts of World Cup 2022. Qatar won the bid over USA, South Korea, Japan and Australia. When the announcement was first made I was amazed Qatar got this over USA or Australia.
Firstly, I am not even going to get into the bribery and corruption issues involving a certain Mohammed Bin Hamman, who is from Qatar. A man who was originally banned for life from Fifa in 2011, only for that ban to be overturned a year later.
Although visually Qatar will be a tremendous spectacle. Initially I wasn’t even thinking about the heat situation. But gradually as it began to arise, Sepp Blatter’s comments of maybe moving the World Cup to winter was to me the most Ludicrous decisions I have ever heard in football.
He wants to disrupt, rejig and restructure the whole world footballing calendar.
Not just for one season. It would probably affect football for at least 2 years, to fit (although it is the World Cup) a four-week tournament into the winter months.
I thought this is what the whole process of bidding against other countries was for. So FIFA could analyse what problems hosting a World Cup there would arise and make a decision purely off that.
Now three years later “Septic Blatter” (as my brother calls him) comes out and admitted they made a mistake in awarding Qatar the World Cup. Well admitting something that everybody already knew years ago is just not good enough.
Last but not least. We have the host of the 2018 World Cup, Russia. Again, I am not even going into any bribery or corruption allegations because I cannot prove that.
What I can prove is, the numerous cases of racism that we have seen on the TV screens by Russian fans.
Even in this day and age, they have displayed blatant and bold racism in the face of the world’s public, which at times seemed to have been defended or deflected by the Russian FA. And this is the country FIFA has “awarded” the World Cup to.
The racism issue is a sensitive one. It should be dealt with in a relation to how serious it is or things will never change. As we have seen, if not taken seriously, nobody will fear any reprisals and continue to disrespect.
It cannot, should not and absolutely will not be solved with what FIFA President Blater publicly stated “a handshake”. How out of touch can one guy be?
I take my previous comment back THAT was the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard in football.
FIFA and Sepp Blatter in particular, stated they make decisions purely for the people. Well we can obviously see this is not true.
The evidence is all there to see. I am amazed that the biggest, most popular sport in this entire world is being run by such incompetence.
I think as football lovers, we should all be ashamed of ourselves.
